Professional nursing includes teaching of health care and the prevention of illness; assessment, nursing diagnosis, nursing care, and counsel; the administration of medications and treatments; the coordination and assistance in the delivery of a plan of health care; and, the teaching and supervision of other nursing personnel (Missouri Board of Nursing, 2012). The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
