This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The registered nurse collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to Veterans that are completing rehab with the goal to return to their prior functional status after an acute medical stay. Admiral's Point (3B) is a 14 bed post-acute neighborhood with a respiratory focus. The registered nurse collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to the Veterans that require more respiratory focused care then what can be supported in the home environment. Waterside Way (CT3) & Emerald Woods (CT4) are both 37 bed short stay rehab and skilled neighborhoods. The registered nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide comprehensive care to Veterans that are admitted for rehab, IV antibiotic management, and simple to complex wound care. The nurse will identify barriers to rehab or treatment plan and will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to resolve these issues promote a safe discharge to the Veterans preferred location. Soaring Heights (CT5) is a 37-bed secure cognitive impairment/dementia care neighborhood. The registered nurse provides comprehensive holistic care to veterans that are admitted to the floor due to respite, placement needs, short term rehab or in need of medical care that cannot be safely given at home. The nurse will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate a safe and appropriate discharge. Blind Rehab (WCTA) is a 15 Bed certified rehabilitation center for Veterans with various degrees of visual impairment. The registered nurse works with the interdisciplinary team to work with the Veteran while they receive several weeks of therapies with the goal to return home to independent living. Heroes Harbor Hospice is a 12 bed neighborhood that provides services to Veterans enrolled in the VA NEOHS who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness for which curative treatment is no longer appropriate, that would benefit from an inpatient interdisciplinary team, providing patient centered care with the goal to achieve the best quality of life through relief of suffering, control of symptoms and maintenance of functional capacity while remaining sensitive to personal, cultural and religious values, beliefs and practices. This also includes bereavement care for the Veteran's family. The incumbent will provide prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill and injured veterans. Duties include documenting observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes; providing a full range of nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; and accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade. Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating coordination of the patients' care with all interdisciplinary teams. Completing comprehensive nursing documentation according to standards. Assisting patients physically and emotionally. Responsive to patient and family; patient self-care education needs. Providing home care instructions. Promoting family significant/other involvement. Demonstrates a knowledge of specialty nursing trends and evidence based care in assigned unit or program. Collaborating with interdisciplinary team for admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients; throughout their hospitalization or care episode. Identifying ethical dilemmas and appropriately consults nurse manager or seeks ethics consultation. Promoting effective communication and resolving conflicts among staff.
