Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Current active and unrestricted RN and NP license. Graduate from Master's Degree Nurse Practitioner program. Certification as a Mental Health Nurse practitioner REQUIRED WI Prescriptive Authority. Preferred Experience: Experience as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a professional with advanced clinical knowledge and competence to function in a variety of roles. She/he is accountable for the management and evaluation of patient care under her/his care. She/he holds clinical privileges and practices in collaboration with a physician. The NP provides comprehensive wellness care, as well as acute, episodic, and chronic care, of adult veterans. The NP is prepared by advanced practice in adult health care across the health continuum. This practice includes independent and interdependent decision making, and direct accountability for clinical judgment. The NP will evaluate and treat adult and elderly patients in Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). The MHRRTP is a 125 bed residential program which provides treatment for veterans with a range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, PTSD, homelessness and serious mental illness conditions. The NP will also perform activities related to follow-up of abnormal lab and radiology results, keeping communication open with veterans and their families, and ensuring that staff is kept abreast on the veteran's clinical condition. He/She will provide care under the supervision of the Mental Health Medical Staff. This position is also being announced as a Physicians Assistant (PA). FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: Participates in the performance improvement needs of the MHRRTP in collaboration with other team members and the MHRRTP Program Managers or their designee. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance services to Veterans served by the MH Division. Collaborates with MHRRTP Program staff to provide on-going education regarding medical/mental health vulnerability of the Veteran population to Mental Health Division staff and Veterans Uses clinical knowledge and judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating current practice and outcomes and demonstrates clinical and mandatory competencies for this position. Uses professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities. Provides continuity of care for assigned Veterans working in consultation with staff throughout the medical center. Provides mental health care with skill and sensitivity to Veterans who are homeless, mentally ill, and/or using illicit substances through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides psychiatric medication management for assigned Veterans. Evaluates Veterans' physical and mental health, family and social history to identify health care needs. Appropriately educating the patient of the need for follow-up care and referring Veterans to the appropriate level of care. Working in consultation with other divisions within the Medical Center. Other duties as assigned by Program Manager, Assistant Program Manager, Nursing Program Coordinator and MH Division Managers, consistent with clinical practice standards.
