Position Title: Registered Nurse - Research Nurse United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. While this announcement is posted at various grade levels, the Professional Standards Board will determine the grade assignment of a selected candidate. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. BLS/ACLS Requirements: Current certification in Basis Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required for all staff providing direct patient care and working in PCU. If you are selected, you will be required to have proof of certification prior to being boarded for appointment with VA or obtain such certification in order to avoid any delays in the hiring process. Preferred Experience: At least 2-3 years Research Nurse experience. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in a patient care setting; adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated. Office temperatures fluctuate periodically; involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as clinics, offices, meeting and training rooms or libraries; exposure to noise and dust on occasion. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. Duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following: -Conduct several clinical trials simultaneously and soundly, including but not limited to recruitment, screening, enrollment, and follow-up of eligible subjects according to protocol requirements (e.g., subject follow-up, case report form completion and reporting of adverse drug experiences). -Maintain accurate and complete documentation, including but not limited to regulatory documents, signed informed consent forms, relevant IRB\napprovals, source documentation, drug dispensing logs, subject logs and study-related communications. -Manage organization of all aspects of several protocols simultaneously based on demand required, including but not limited to timely completion of case report forms (CRFs), data entry, adverse drug experiences reports (ADEs) and caseload and study file management. -Communicate all protocol-related issues/problems to the appropriate management staff, including but not limited to questions regarding the\nconduct of the cooperative study, concerns regarding possible ADEs or subject compliance. -Professional conduct in the presence of subjects, research staff, sponsors, monitors, etc. -Maintain BLS and/or ACLS training when required and for performing activities that reflect the educational, experiential\nand competency requirements outlined in the four (4) dimensions of Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. -Communicate and interact appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers. -Maintain confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information. -Demonstrate working practices that include adherence to Infection Control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment. -Provide direct patient care through individual, group, and family therapies as well as crisis intervention. -Determine the need for restraint or seclusion treatment modalities if patient is in danger to self or others. When the patient's immediate behavior is controlled, the nurse will notify the physician and the treatment plan will be reviewed and modified as appropriate. -Perform psychosocial assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of health care needs and care of specific patients and their significant\nothers/families. -Employee identifies and reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate personnel to ensure a safe environment for all patients, medical center personnel, and visitors. Specific Research-related responsibilities include the following: -Conduct FDA Regulated clinical studies according to FDA regulations and SOPs (if they exist) and according to institutional policies and procedures. -Ensure that the Principal Investigator is informed in a timely manner of all study-related activities. -Ensure the safety and welfare of study subjects by being knowledgeable about ongoing study protocols and investigational articles.
