This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Master's Degree in Nursing with an emphasis as a Nurse Practitioner from a school of professional nursing that was accredited by the State agency and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education at the time of program completion. Note: In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted license and certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. Proficient in written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience: At least 1 year or more experience in compensation and pension in performing disability evaluations. Must have Compensation & Pension experience to be highly qualified. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade. Nurse I Level III - A Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Light lifting (under 15 lbs.), Use of fingers, both hands required, ability to see a computer screen, hearing (aid permitted). ["Clinical duties includes but not limited to C&P. Clinical coverage will be between C&P clinic (2 days in a week, subject to change depending on the clinic access needs). Other clinical areas (Inpatient CLC and outpatient, other clinical coverage as required). The C&P NP will be responsible for generating C&P exam reports utilizing CAPRI/CPRS templates; diction templates and/or other methods as approved by the Chief, C&P Service - for the official record of the Veteran's C&P and Integrated Disability Examination Evaluation System (IDES) examinations. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate Veterans served by the MG-HCS in the C&P department. Demonstrates leadership in the C&P Service and demonstrates the ability to work effectively between the Veteran Health Administration (VHA) and the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). Uses effective decision-making and leadership in the application of the C&P evaluation of the Veteran. Review completed exams for quality using clinical knowledge and skillset for rating purposes. Reviews all medical records inclusive of service treatment records, current medical treatment records, all private medical records, VBMS & Virtual records when requested by the Regional Office in evaluating and submitting medical opinions for the Veterans disability claims. Works co-operatively with all inter-disciplinary staff, administrative staff, case managers, etc. Encounter all disability exams into CPRS local system after each evaluation has been released to the various Regional Offices as means of providing feedback to Veterans. Gives appropriate notice for vacation to minimize clinical cancellations and collaborates with the Chief of C&P Service. Responds to emails from Raters, requests for addendums/clarifications and addressing any insufficiencies in a timely manner. Performs C&P examinations according to VBA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and maintains and acceptable examination report performance, quality of evaluations will be checked twice a year to maintain FPPE/OPPE privileges. Assists the service Chief/supervisor, C&P Service, with the development and implementation of new programs, studies and policies for the C&P Service department only in accordance with Central Office directives and policies for C&P Services. Formally or informally teaches staff about topics relating to C&P. Teaches Veterans about the C&P process in an effort for them to gain better insight into the disability process and their medical disabilities for improving lifestyle. Maintains CME certification and all training requirements to include, but not limited to, TMS and DMA, including required BCLS and optional ACLS. Other Duties: Inpatient coverage in CLC (Community living nursing homes). Performs other patient care related duties, as necessary. Participating in pre-admission screening, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary team rounds. In addition to observance of Federal National and Local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this Health Care System, this position encompasses but not limited to the following examples of responsibilities. Participate in chart reviews, staff meetings, committees, and other process improvement initiatives. Respond to critical lab/diagnostic test result notifications in a timely manner. Ensure all encounters are closed the same day the visit was made, and complete documentation requirements in CPRS in a timely manner. Maintain and upkeep credentials required for privileging and re- privileging, and achieve competencies and performance as approved by the professional board. Communicate the plan of coverage to the team members when taking leave of absence. Complete training requirements, employee health requirements and Environmental and Occupational requirements. Obtain pertinent medical and psycho-social history including patient profile, chief complaint, history of present illness, past medical history, social history and review of body systems. Perform a physical examination as pertinent, modifying the examination for the nature of the complaint or problem, age/sex of patient and physical condition of patient. Determine patient's mental status (i.e., level of consciousness, orientation, mood, etc.). Order and/or perform the following diagnostic test. Order other laboratory, x-ray and diagnostic studies appropriate for complaint, age, race, sex and physical condition of patient. Obtain the following specimens for laboratory evaluation.
