This position is located at the West Roxbury, MA Campus within the Nursing Service in the Sterile Processing Department. The primary purpose of this position is to perform as a Work Leader for Medical Supply Technician work at the Boston Health Care System (BHCS) in Sterile Process Service (SPS). Drug Testing Position: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. The Lead MST works in support of the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) management team. Distributes and prioritizes workload among employees in accordance with established workflow and/or job specializations. Assures an even workflow and distribution of the workload. Revises work schedules to meet anticipated and unanticipated changes in the workload. Assigns work to staff based on experience and training needs. Monitors and reports on the status of work. Ensures SOPs and SPS mandates are followed during the performance of workflow. Reviews work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review to ensure completed work meets supervisors' instructions on such things as work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Assesses the quality and quantity of work by reviewing the cleaning, reprocessing, and distribution of technical medical equipment, material and instrumentation. Provides information to management officials concerning performance issues, assignment changes and task completion. Instructs employees on work-related activities, policies, procedures and goals. You will be required to travel to the community based outpatient clinics when necessary. Applicants are required, but not limited to the duties below: Performs as a Work Leader for three or more GS-622-7 Medical Supply Technicians that work in decontamination, sterilization, instrument and cart preparation sections. Performs equipment maintenance and supply, storage and issue of medical supplies and instruments. Distributes and balances the assignment among employees in accordance with established workload. Communicates status and progress of work and makes day to day adjustments in accordance with established schedules. Provides on the job training to new employees. Evaluates progress of employees and provides input to the supervisor on employee's performance, progress and training needs, any potential disciplinary problems, promotions, reassignments, incentive award recognition, etc. Performs equipment maintenance and supply, storage and issue of medical supplies and instruments. Collects contaminated case carts and reusable medical equipment (RME) instruments from operating rooms. Decontaminates and inspects the instruments prior to sterilization by hand washing or by use of the washer sanitizer. Inspects and ensures bio-burden is removed prior to ultrasonic and machine washing. Examines items for defects, damage, cleanliness.
