A full- time opportunity exists at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, University Drive Division, Behavioral Health Service Line (BHSL) for a Registered Nurse with special proficiency in Addictions. The RN Staff Nurse will be assigned to the Center for Treatment of Addictive Disorders (CTAD). The RN Staff Nurse will be assigned to the Center for Treatment of Addictive Disorders (CTAD). The CTAD clinic provides treatment across outpatient and residential levels of care, including an on-site Opioid Treatment Program. The RN may provide services at both the residential and outpatient levels of care. The incumbent will provide patient evaluation, treatment planning, individual case management, and group counseling education to an assigned caseload under the direction of the CTAD Program Leader and Medical Director, and is accountable to the BHSL Nurse Manager. Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and screening evaluation of Substance Use Disordered (SUD) clients entering treatment. Develop client treatment plans identifying objective, measurable and individualized recovery goals. Provide medical management and administration and monitoring of prescribed medications. Assess for and appropriately manage withdrawal risk and presentations of acute intoxication. Provide risk assessment, screening and counseling for hepatitis, HIV and other health risk behaviors. Provide screening for suicide risk and facilitate a warm handoff to psychiatric providers if indicated. Provide individual counseling to an assigned caseload and monitor treatment plan progress. Provide group counseling, health teaching, and psychoeducation to CTAD clients. Participate in the development of patient education and therapy programming pertinent to CTAD operations. Maintain knowledge of current competencies, techniques, trends, and issues specific to clinical care of patients with substance use disorders. Function as a consultant and resource to the administrative, medical and support staff in clinical issues relative care of patients with substance use disorders, and function in the role of Charge Nurse, in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Initiate and/or actively participate in interdisciplinary committees/teams/task forces focused on improving care of patients with substance use disorders and organizational performance. Participate in data collection, analysis and evaluation related to performance improvement initiatives, program evaluation activities, risk management, and research collaborations specific to clinical patient issues. Work Schedule: Primary tour is 7:30-4:00pm, or other approved day tours, Monday through Friday. Occasional Evening Tour and Saturday coverage may be required.
