The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is seeking a Registered Nurse for The Operating Room Scheduler, to become part of the Surgery Service Team. As an RN assigned to the operating room, the nurse is primarily responsible for applying the nursing process to the care of veteran patients undergoing surgical procedures in the operating room. This includes, but is not limited to, assuring that appropriate documentation reflects assessment of patient needs, interdisciplinary treatment plans, clinical intervention, and evaluation of patients' responses to treatments. In addition, the nurse demonstrates proficiency in practice based on conscious and deliberate planning and is self-directed in setting goals for managing the care of the adult and geriatric patients, in accordance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, Medical Center, VAHQ standards of practice, AORN and AAMI standards. The incumbent provides in-direct nursing care to individual and groups of patients under the guidance and direction of the OR Manager and works to coordinate and schedule the day to day surgical procedures performed within the surgical suite. This position requires a working knowledge of the organization, the surgical process, and an in depth knowledge of surgical procedures requirements. The incumbent collaborates with the OR Daily Coordinator, Anesthesia Department, and Surgical Care Managers to create and distribute the schedule for OR cases daily. The OR Scheduler is also responsible for reviewing drafts of future schedules and identifying conflicts in scheduling or equipment needs across all surgical sub-specialties'.
