Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer (Quality Improvement Healthcare Specialist 4) Final Filing Date: 12/5/2019 The position of Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer is responsible for abstracting selected surgical cases following the criteria proscribed by the American College of Surgeons National Quality Improvement Project (NSQIP). This is accomplished through high quality clinical screening, data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries. This position requires a high level of clinical judgment, creativity, organization, clinical assessment skills and priority setting. The Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer works closely with the designated physician in each surgical service. The Surgical Clinical Nurse Reviewer combines clinical knowledge of health care delivery systems with current quality performance improvement tools and techniques to demonstrate excellence in clinical and surgical outcomes at UCDMC. Required Qualifications - Valid US nursing License upon hire; California nursing license must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Clinical chart review and abstraction experience.
- Computer and Internet skills and experience– immediate to advanced level of experience with MS Office products is essential for success in this position (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access), familiar with electronic health record systems.
- Experience in clinical patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications - NSQIP certification.
- Recent experience in acute care and/or SICU inpatient surgical nursing.
- Database data entry and/or management experience.
- Quality improvement or patient safety knowledge and experience.
Special Requirements - Must attain NSQIP certification following completion of training, maintain annual recertification
- Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
- Occasional overtime will be necessary.
- Ability to speak publically in front of physicians, department chairs, physician champions, and hospital leadership regarding NSQIP related data.
- Maintenance of Annual MAT requirements including CPR and TB surveillance.
- This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
