More than 750 of East Tennessee Children's Hospital's smallest patients are treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) every year. Safety and quality are always the highest priorities of our work in the NICU and in all of Children's Hospital. The hospital is one of the top pediatric centers for safety and quality because of decreases in central line associated blood stream infections, surgical site infections and ventilator associated pneumonias. The Children's Hospital NICU has had zero ventilator-associated pneumonia cases for the last two years due to better practices and higher standards. The NICU is staffed with registered nurses and complemented by IBCLC Certified Lactation Consultants, Unit Techs, Transport Technicians, and Lactation Technicians who work under the direction of the RN in providing patient care.
BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
A Registered Professional Nurse who assists in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the nursing operation of the unit. Responsible for the overall quality of nursing care provided through supervision, guidance and assistance to the staff on assigned shift.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Bachelors degree in Nursing or other field required.
Minimum Work Experience
5 years nursing experience with 1 year pediatric nursing preferred
Previous management experience preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications for position
TN or Compact RN license required
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Strong leadership, delegation, and effective management skills.

Heavy lifting, pushing and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
